By David Barasa (MBChB III)   Giving

Honouring God through giving your possessions, money, love to the unloved and encouragement to the discouraged brings deliverance and breakthrough. The greatest giver in the Bible is God the Father himself. He says that while we were yet sinners He sent His Son to die for us. God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ saved the whole world.

Read “Acts 10:1-3”: At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian regiment. He and all his family were devout and God-fearing. He gave to those in need and prayed to God regularly. He distinctly saw an angel of God who came to him and called, “Cornelius!” Cornelius stared at him in fear and asked, “What is it Lord”. The angel answered, “Your prayer gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering to God”. Note that through giving the heavens opened up to him. The angel of the Lord visited him and in vs. 28, he said to them, “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a gentile or visit him”. But God showed me I shouldn’t call any man impure or unclean.

In verse 48, they are baptised both in the Holy Spirit and water. All came through giving.

Set out to honour someone each day, take time to give compliments, feed someone and this honour that you will come back to you. Today you can be someone’s miracle since you have something someone else needs. Look for ways to reach out to others: choose to be kind, loving, merciful and supportive of God’s work. What we sow into other people’s lives shall reap a great harvest so let us trust God with it.

Read “Acts 9:36-39”: In Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha, who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time, she became sick and died. Her body was washed and taken upstairs to a room in her house. Peter went with them and went into the room. All the widows there stood around him crying and they showed him the robes and other clothing that Tabitha had made while she was still alive with them. In vs. 40, Peter sent them all out of the room then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning to the dead woman he said, “Tabitha get up”. She opened her eyes and seeing Peter, she sat up. In vs. 41, he took her by her hand and helped her to her feet. Peter then called the believers and presented her to them alive. Just like Tabitha, what you sow into people’s lives you can trust God that He will bring back into your life. God sees what you do and your heart of compassion. Nobody may clap for you on earth but all of heaven is cheering you on.

John Bunyan said, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you. Do you have extra clothing, shoes...? Collect them and donate them to the charity basket in your own church or to C.U. These shall be supplied t the needy. It’s our time and turn to shine for Christ Jesus. It’s absurd to throw away extra food while there are people who are starving. Give this too.

The hand that gives will always remain up.

God bless you abundantly
